How does it work?
Our weight-loss clinic uses prescription medications that have been clinically proven to promote weight loss. The choice of medication will be decided after consultation and careful screening to ensure they are appropriate and safe for you.
The medication is an injection that you are trained to administer at home. It works by mimicking the action of your body’s natural hormones (GLP 1) which regulates appetite and food intake. This hormone makes you feel full so your appetite is reduced. It also delays the time it takes to your stomach to empty, which keeps you feeling fuller for longer. The medication also has a secondary effect of stimulating insulin secretion and reduces glucagon (both hormones released by the pancreas). This helps your body reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and helps prevent heart disease and strokes.
How do I take it?
The medication is a self-administered dose-adjustable prefilled injection device (pen). We can adjust the dose based on your response. You will be shown how to administer the medication and supervised giving yourself the first dose.
Combined with a healthy diet plan and regular exercise, the injection not only helps you lose weight, but also curbs hunger and cravings. We will help you at every step of your weight-loss journey including tips to keep on track with your weight-loss and keep motivated.
Is it Safe?
The injection offers an effective, safe and healthy weight-loss solution. It is both FDA and NHS approved. Combined with a healthy diet plan and regular exercise, the injection not only helps you lose weight, but also curbs hunger and cravings, helping you keep the weight off.
The injection is the only approved injectable prescription medicine available in the UK for weight loss.
Who can have this treatment?
Adults between the ages of 18-75.
People with a BMI (body mass index) over 27 who have other weight related health problems such as:
- High blood pressure
- High levels of fat in the blood (LIPIDS)
- Breathing problems, sleep apnoea
- People with a BMI above 30 with none of the above
Who cannot have this treatment?
The weight-loss treatment is not suitable for any individual with a history of thyroid cancer or pancreatitis, as well as anybody with a BMI less than 28, any patients taking insulin, pregnant or breast-feeding women, or anybody under the age of 18. If you have severe kidney impairment you will be unsuitable for this treatment.
How do I get the injection?
The weight-loss injection is a prescription-only medicine and must be supplied by a healthcare professional, therefore you will have to complete an initial medical screening questionnaire and if you are suitable, have a face to face consultation with our trained nurse at the clinic. We will perform blood tests which can be done either at your GP or at our clinic. This ensures that the medication is safe for use. For optimum results, the treatment should be complemented by a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How many doses per weight-loss injection pen?
Each pen will last for 4 -6 weeks depending on the dose you need for optimum weight loss.
Are there any side effects of the weight-loss program and treatment?
As with all medication, you may experience short-term side effects, although not everyone will experience them. The most common side effects of our weight-loss injection are:
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- Feeling Jittery
What weight-loss results can I expect to see?
Most people can expect to loose approximately 1 stone (12 pounds) every 4-6 weeks. Everyone is different and will respond to treatment in different ways. It is important to know that the treatment requires commitment from you to alteryour diet and lifestyle to get the best results.
